Funeral service for Ms. Rexalene Shumake Steve was at 10 AM Saturday, May 11, 2024 at St. Catherine Catholic Church with cremation to follow. 

Visitation was at 10 AM Thursday, May 9, 2024 at the Conehatta CERF Building. 

Rexalene Shumake Steve was born on March 19, 1950, to the late Dempsey Shumake and Zulene Dixon. On Sunday, May 5th, she passed away at the age of 74 at her daughter’s home in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. We are celebrating the life of our beloved Rexalene Steve, who was known for her humor, spirituality, and beauty. 

A devoted member of Saint Edward Catholic Church in Nashville, TN, Rexalene instilled Catholic morals and values in her children and grandchildren. Her faith was so strong that she never considered anyone a stranger. She will be remembered for her love for laughter, as well as bringing joy and laughter to others. She grew up in the Conehatta Community in Mississippi. After completing high school, she pursued higher education in Oklahoma, where she graduated from college. She then dedicated her career to public service, working with the Department of Health and Human Services, Indian Health Service, and The Department of Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs in Nashville, TN. 

Rexalene cherished her time with family, whether it was watching her grandchildren play sports, traveling, cooking, engaging in word searches, playing games, or shopping. Her presence will be deeply missed. 

She is preceded in death by her father, Dempsey Shumake; mother, Zulene Dixon; brothers, Infant Randall Crenshaw Shumake, Infant John Randall Shumake, Hurley Russell Shumake, and Alex Randy Shumake; sister, Annie Merle Isaac. 

She is survived by three daughters: Denise Steve (Dwight Isaac) of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Vandy (husband Julian) Mitchell, and Sheree Steve of Mount Juliet, Tennessee. 

She also leaves behind two sisters, Glorianna Wilson of Carthage, Mississippi, and Maybelline Shumake of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; three brothers, Leonard Shumake of Conehatta Mississippi, Garland Shumake of Philadelphia, Mississippi, and Jerry Lee Shumake of Conehatta, Mississippi; five grandsons, Trajan Isaac, Trevor Isaac, Troy Isaac, Jalen Mitchell, and Jaxson Mitchell; one granddaughter, Juliana Mitchell; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
