The Leake Academy baseball team kicked off the baseball season last week with a win over former district foe Winston Academy.

The Rebels banged out 11 hits and built an early lead to take a 10-6 win over the Patriots.

Leake has two games scheduled this week as they will host Class 6A Jackson Academy on Tuesday in the home opener and will then play at Tri-County Academy on Thursday.

The Rebels jumped out to an early lead and held off the Patriots late to take a four-run win over the Patriots on Thursday in the season opener. 

Leake scored three in the first and four in the second and led 7-1 after two innings. Leake added two in the third and one in the fourth and led 10-4 after four innings. Winston added two more runs for the final margin.

Leake had 11 hits in the contest as Tyler Winstead was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Grayson McDonald was 2-for-4 while Rece Atkinson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Caden Stovall was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Rhett Stovall singled, scored twice and had three RBIs while Mathan Weaver singled and scored twice. Charlie Brantley also scored twice while Jon Donovan doubled and drove in a run. 

Atkinson started on the mound and picked up the win, pitching the first two innings, giving up three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out five. Rhett Stovall pitched the next three innings and gave up two runs on five hits while striking out two. Donovan pitched the last two innings and gave up two unearned runs on one hit while striking out four.
