After getting the majority of his team late because of football, the Union basketball team started the season slow.

But the Yellowjackets started to find their grove last week as they won four games. Union started the week with a 54-47 win over Enterprise on Tuesday. Union then beat Raleigh 56-26 on Thursday, Taylorsville 64-61 on Friday and Mize 72-54 on Saturday to win the Mize tournament championship. 

Union boys 72, Mize 54

The Yellowjackets jumped out to an early lead and cruised to an 18-point win on Saturday to win the tournament championship.

U’Darrian Hickman led Union with 26 points while Kamarian Rushing had 17 points. Mason Tucker had nine points while Zi Buckley and Kamari Townsend had eight points apiece.

Union boys 64, 

Taylorsville 61

The Yellowjackets overcame a late deficit and took a three-point win over the Tartars on Friday.

Union led 16-15 at the end of the first and then outscored Taylorsville 20-11 in the second to lead 36-26 at the half. Taylorsville then outscored Union 27-15 in the third to take a 53-51 lead going into the fourth. Union then outscored Raleigh 13-8 in the fourth to take the win.

Keon Hutchins led Union with 22 points while Mason Tucker had 14 points. Kamarion Rushing and U’Darrian Hickman had 11 points apiece while Zi Buckley had six points.

Union boys 56, Raleigh 26

The Yellowjackets dominated the Lions in the first three periods and took a 30-point win on Thursday.

Aiden Davis led Union with 17 points while Kamarion Rushing had 12 points. Keon Hutchins had 11 points while U’Darrian Hickman had nine points.

Union boys 54, 

Enterprise 47

The Yellowjackets finished strong and took a seven-point win over the Bulldogs on Tuesday.

Union jumped out to a 14-6 lead in the first period before Enterprise outscored the Yellowjackets 24-20 in the second to cut the margin to 34-30 at the half. Enterprise took the third period 11-9 to cut the margin to 43-41 going to the fourth. Union then pulled away an outscored Enterprise 11-6 in the fourth to take the win.

Kamarion Rushing led Union with a season-high 30 points while Keon Hutchins had eight points.
