Yellowjackets end 2023 with pair of wins; prepping for district play

The Union basketball teams finished out 2023 with a pair of wins.

The Union girls took a hard-fought 40-30 win over Noxapater while the Union boys flexed their muscle and took a 49-24 win over the Lady Tigers. 

Union is scheduled to return from the Christmas break and open district play as they host Philadelphia on Tuesday and Eupora on Friday. The following week, Union will play at Enterprise on Tuesday, Jan. 9 and then will play at Sebastopol on Friday, Jan. 12.

Union girls 40, 

Noxapater 30

The Union girls took a hard-fought win over the Lady Tigers in their only action last week.

Union led 10-7 at the end of the first period and then outscored the Lady Tigers 6-4 in the second period to take a 16-11 lead at the half. The pace picked up in the second half and Union outscored Noxapater 14-11 to lead 30-22 going to the fourth. Union took the fourth period 10-8 for the final margin.

Kylee Madden led Union with 17 points and four rebounds while Gracyn Tillman had 10 points, six rebounds, four steals and three deflections. Rymia Craft had 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Union boys 59, 

Noxapater 24

The Yellowjackets dominated the first three periods and took a 35-point win last week in their only action.

Keon Hutchins and Kamarion Rushing each had 12 points apiece while Mason Tucker had 11 points apiece.
