Funeral services for Mr. Willam Tate Barnes were held at 2 PM Friday, July 19, 2024, at John E. Stephens Chapel with Rev. Dennis Duvall and Rev. Mickey Breedlove officiating. Interment in East Lawn City Cemetery. Visitation was at 12 PM till time for service Friday, July 19, 2024 at John E. Stephens Chapel. John E. Stephens Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Willam Tate Barnes passed away on Saturday July 13, 2024 at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Merline Edwards Barnes, his parents Joe and Rose Barnes, a son Craig Barnes and a granddaughter Amber Lynette Ritchie.

He is survived by one daughter, Terry Lynn Baldwin (Jackie) from Kentucky and 3 great grandchildren.

Mr. Barnes was born in Harrison County, Kentucky on March 2, 1941. He traveled most of his life working for a glass construction company. He moved to Philadelphia, MS after he retired and lived there the rest of his life.

He was in the United States Marines, 4th Marine Corps District from June 7, 1960 to February 14, 1966. While enlisted he received numerous medals, commendations and campaign ribbons including Good Conduct medal, Pistol Expert and Rifle Marksman. His duty assignments were in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His last duty assignment was at Marine Base, Clarksville, TN.

His favorite pastime was reading. He loved westerns and Louis L'amour. He read avidly and extensively. He was a Mason and a member of West Philadelphia Baptist Church.
