Union falls to Wesson in overtime to end season
The Union Yellow Jackets hosted the Wesson Cobras in the first round of the football playoffs for region 5-3A.
The first scoring of the game was by Union at the 9:59 mark of the first quarter. Yellow Jacket Quarterback, U’Darion Hickmon threw a 40 yard touchdown pass to Keon Hutchins. Samuel Alawine’s PAT was good. Union led by a score of 7-0. Wesson responded at the 7:45 mark of the first quarter, Omari Johnson ran for a 4 yard touchdown. The PAT was blocked by the Jackets defensive corps.
Wesson was not finished scoring in the first quarter. At the 5:00 mark of the quarter, Will Loy completed a 46 yard pass to Omari Johnson for another Cobra touchdown. Wesson attempted a 2 point conversion that was unsuccessful. The score was Wesson 12 Union 7. With 4:12 left in the first quarter Union responded with another scoring drive. Xavier Boler ran for sixty yards and scored a touchdown for the Jackets. Once again the PAT by Samuel Alawine was good. The score was Union 14 Wesson 12.
At the 2:26 mark remaining in the first quarter the Cobras responded with a scoring drive of their own. Wyatt Hughes scored a touchdown on a 2 yard run. The 2 point conversion attempt was unsuccessful. Wesson had taken the lead with a score of 18 to 14.
The final scoring of the first half, took place with 28 seconds left in the second quarter. Wesson’s kicker, Patrick Coleman was successful on a 22 yard field.
At the end of the first half the score was Wesson 21 Union 14. At the 9:25 mark of the third quarter Union’s U’Darion Hickmon ran for an 18 yard touchdown. The PAT was blocked. Wesson led Union by a single point the score was 21-20. At the 10:55 mark of the fourth quarter Xavier Boler ran for a 2 yard touchdown. The 2 point conversion pass from Hickmon to Tucker was good. Union had taken the lead. The score was Union 28 Wesson 21.
Will Loy ran for a 2 yard touchdown at the 5:58 mark of the fourth quarter and the PAT was good. The score was knotted at 28.
The game went to overtime and Will Loy completed a 9 yard touchdown scoring pass to Wyatt Hughes. The PAT was unsuccessful. The final score was Wesson 34 Union 28.
