Undefeated Leake Academy Rebels visit Wayne Academy

The Leake Academy Rebels return to action Thursday night when they visit Wayne Academy in a non-district game.

Leake Academy, 6-0, is the No. 1 ranked team in the Scorebook Live MISA Class 5A poll. Wayne Academy comes in at 5-2. The Jaguars are the No. 4 team in the Scorebook Live Class 4A poll. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Rebels are coming off a 49-6 victory over Washington School. Wayne Academy defeated Richton 34-8.

Against Washington, Leake Academy went up 42-0 in the first half.

The Rebels took the ball into the endzone early in the first quarter. Canon Parks scored on a one-yard run. Cole Arthur’s kick was good and Leake Academy led 7-0.

Later in the quarter, quarterback Rhett Atkinson connected with Levi Brown on a 71-yard TD pass play. Arthur’s kick was good and the Rebels led 14-0 with 5:57 left in the first quarter.

Whitt Welch opened the second quarter with an eight-yard TD run. Arthur’s kick was good and the Rebels led 21-0 with 11:55 remaining in the period.        

Atkinson and Brown hooked up for another TD pass completion, this time from 10 yards out. Arthur kicked the extra point and the Rebels led 28-0 with 8:45 left in the quarter.

Leake Academy closed out the second quarter with a pair of touchdown runs. Welch scored on a two-yard run, and Bryce Watkins scored on a nine-yard run. Arthur kicked both extra point and the Rebels led 42-0 at the half.

Calvin Malone scored Leake Academy’s final touchdown in the third quarter on a one-yard run. Arthur’s kick made the score 49-0.

Washington School scored its points with five minutes left in the fourth quarter on a one-yard run. The try for two failed.

Leake Academy had 334 total yards on offense and 23 first downs. The Rebels had 245 rushing yards on 35 carries, and completed 3-of-7 passes for 99 yards. The Rebels had no penalties and one lost fumble.

Washington had 134 total yards and six first downs. They ran for 39 yards on 17 carries and completed 6-of-16 passes for 99 yards. Washington was penalized three times for 15 yards and had one lost fumble,

Malone led the Rebels in rushing with 89 yards on eight carries. Welch had eight rushes for 65 yards while Bryce Watkins had 65 yards on seven rushes. Parks had 37 rushing yards on five carries.

Atkinson had all of Leake Academy’s rushing yards. Brown had two catches for 81 yards, and Riley Myers caught one pass for 18 yards.

Kade Marble and Nick Gomillion both led the defense with siz tackles.
