The Philadelphia Tornadoes claimed their first win of the season with a 34-0 victory over Lake Thursday night in prep football action.

The Tornadoes now stand at 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Region 6-2A standings. Philadelphia will celebrate Homecoming this Friday night when they host Forest.

Lake took the opening kickoff. Philadelphia held the Hornets, forcing a punt. Janaylon Dupree returned the ball for 80 yards and a touchdown. Connor Long’s kick was good and Philadelphia led 7-0 with 9:15 left in the first quarter.

Later in the quarter, Dupree caught a 94-yard TD pass from Marcus Beamon. The extra point was good and Philadelphia led 14-0 with 5:07 left in the first quarter.

In the second quarter. Chance Greer ran 20 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was no good and the Tornadoes led 20-0 with 8:11 left in the second quarter.

Kadarius Calloway caught a 36-yard TD pass from Beamon. The kick was good and the Philadelphia led 27-0 with 4:08 left in the half.

That’s how the score stood until the fourth quarter when Greer scored his second touchdown on a 20-yard rush. The kick was good and the Tornadoes led 34-0 and that was the final score.

The Tornadoes finished with 241 rushing yards led by Greer who picked up 135 yards. Jatran Hudson was the leading tackler with 10 stops while Kevon Chamberlain had two interceptions.

“This win was a big confidence builder for us,” Coach David Frey said. “We changed the way we practiced last. We gave the offensive line a lot of attention and it paid off. We really got after it in practice and seemed to carry over in the game.”
