A juvenile was transported to a Jackson hospital Friday evening after suffering a nonfatal accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head on Valley View Drive, the authorities said.

Philadelphia Police responded to the 500 block of Valley View Drive on Friday, Oct. 20, at about 9:30 p.m. to reports of a male being shot, according to Police Chief Eric Lyons.

Officers found a 15 year-old juvenile with a gunshot wound to the head, Lyons said.

“The juvenile was alert and talking at the time of the incident,” Lyons said. “Officers were in the area of Valley View when the shooting occurred and arrived on scene within seconds.”

It was stated that the juvenile grabbed the gun and it went off shooting himself in the head accidentally, according to Lyons.

The juvenile was transported to Neshoba General and later taken by ambulance to a Jackson hospital. Lyons said the juvenile was released from the hospital the following day and is now home, though he has no further updates on his exact condition.
