Rockets bang out 21 hits in sweep of Lake Cormorant

The Neshoba Central baseball team banged out 21 hits in two games as they swept Lake Cormorant in the second round of the Class 5A state baseball playoffs last weekend.

The Rockets, now 25-4, defeated Lake Cormorant 6-1 in the first game and 13-4 in game two. They advance to the third round to play New Hope this weekend. The Trojans defeated Cleveland Central to advance,

The third round series starts Friday when the Rockets visit New Hope. Game two will be played at Neshoba Central, and game three, if necessary, will be played at New Hope. The starting time for all games will be 7 p.m.

“New Hope has a very good club,” said Coach Jonathan Jones. “They have good pitching and good hitting.

“Against Lake Cormorant, we did just enough on Friday night to get the win. We played better on Saturday.”

The winner of this series will play the winner between defending state champion Saltillo and Ridgeland.”

The Rockets outhit Lake Cormorant 9-3 to take the victory in game one.

The Rockets scored one in the first, one in the third and four in the fifth. Lake Cormorant scored its run in the third inning.

Jesse Hancock was the winning pitcher. He had seven strikeouts in six innings of work. Sanders Griffis pitched one inning in relief.

Reid Hall led the Rockets with a home run, a double and a single. He scored two runs and knocked in another. Bryceton Spencer had two hits and knocked in a run. Demarkez West, Pepper Agent, Will Williams and Grayson Fulton all had a hit.

Three pitchers combined for nine strikeouts as the Rockets banged out 13 hits to eliminate Lake Cormorant from the playoffs.

Will Greer started and went three inning to pick up the win. Azaynlon Hickman and Griffis both pitched in the game. All three had three strikeouts apiece and Lake Cormorant finished with six hits.

The Rockets scored one in the first, three in the second, five in the third and four in the fifth. Lake Cormorant scored one in the first, one in the third and two in the fifth.

Creed Fulton led the Rockets with a triple and two singles. He scored two runs and knocked in three runs. R.B. Hardin hit a double and knocked in three runs. Garrett Martin hit a double and a single while knocking in three runs. Hall had two hits, scored three runs and knocked in a run, Bryceton Spencer and Will Williams both had two hits and knocked in two runs,  Brayden Reynolds had one hit.
