Repeat offender flees the law again

Fresh out of prison, a Neshoba County man with an extensive list of felony arrests was arrested again last week after leading deputies on his third chase in six years.

The man, Christopher Dean, 36, 13321 Highway 485, was arrested and charged with DUI, felony fleeing, leaving the scene of an accident, no license, no insurance, and possession of paraphernalia. Dean remains in the Neshoba County Detention Center on $24,200 in bond.

Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said Dean will be required to wear an ankle monitor if he is released on bail.

A deputy spotted Dean on Friday, Sept. 6, at about 2 p.m. while stationed in front of Neshoba Central High School and witnessed a gold Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Dean hit a vehicle at the stop sign on St. Francis Drive at Golf Course Road.

Dean immediately fled the scene and sped down Golf Course Road at a high rate of speed.

The deputy initiated a pursuit, but Dean refused to yield, which nearly caused another wreck as he passed a vehicle on a hill near Williamson Avenue.

“I know he tried to pass at least one vehicle while going over a hill and otherwise showed a disregard for the safety of others,” Clark said.

Dean continued at a high rate of speed and crashed his vehicle near Dogwood Lane. Clark said he attempted to flee on foot, and the pursuing deputies were able to apprehend him behind a nearby house after deploying a Taser.

Dean was apprehended about two miles from Neshoba Central.

Deputies reported Dean smelled of alcohol and found a glass pipe with drug residue in the driver’s side door of his vehicle.

Clark said his records show Dean has been booked in the Neshoba County Detention Center 33 times since 2008 on charges ranging from felony pursuit and possession of a controlled substance to a variety of misdemeanors and traffic violations.

“He has a long history with us and was recently released from MDOC (Mississippi Department of Corrections,” Clark said.

Most recently, Dean was arrested in January 2021 for felony pursuit. Dean avoided a safety checkpoint on Mississippi 15 just north of town and led law enforcement “all through town” on a high-speed chase.

Dean evaded officers before being picked up the next morning at a residence in the Burnside community off of Dunn Road.

During that chase, an NCSO vehicle and a Philadelphia Police cruiser collided, sending officers to Neshoba General with minor injuries.

Dean would serve two years for that offense starting in July 2022 and was released this summer just before the Neshoba County Fair. Dean would be arrested again on Aug. 2 on the Fairgrounds for disorderly conduct. Dean spent the night in jail and was released on Aug. 3.

Dean was also arrested for a felony pursuit in 2018. He received drug court for that offense.

Records also show Dean was arrested for felony fleeing in 2012.
