The Leake Academy basketball teams only got in one game last week but managed to come away with a pair of district wins over East Rankin.

The Leake girls improved to 16-1 on the season as they beat East Rankin 69-24 while the Rebels took a 57-40 win.

Leake is scheduled to play in the Kirk Academy Tournament this week, with the boys set to take on Tri-County on Monday at 2 p.m. and the girls set to take on Bayou at 3:30 p.m. On Tuesday, the Leake boys will take on Central Holmes at 12:30 p.m. while the girls will play MRA at 2 p.m.

 

Rebelettes 69

East Rankin 24

The Rebelettes outscored the Lady Patriots in every period and cruised to a 45-point win on Friday in their only action of the week.

Leake started fast as they jumped out to a 26-9 lead in the first period and 17-11 in the second to lead 43-20 at the half. Leake Academy put the game away in the third, outscoring East Rankin 19-2 to take a 62-22 lead. Leake finished by outscoring East Rankin 7-2 in the fourth to take the win.

Leake made 10 3-pointers in the game and was 27-of-52 from the field. 

Three Rebelettes scored in double digits as Miriam Prince had 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. Katye Jones had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Morgan Freeny had 15 points. Allen Kaye Willcox had 6 points, six steals and five rebounds.

East Rankin 40

The Rebels fell behind early but pulled away in the second half to take a 17-point win over the Patriots on Friday, despite being down two starters.

East Rankin came out hot in the first period and led Leake 17-15. Leake outscored East Rankin 14-8 in the second and led 29-25 at the half. The Rebels pulled away in the third, outscoring East Rankin 20-9 to take a 49-34 lead into the fourth period. Leake finished by outscoring East Rankin 8-6 to take the win.

Leake got a balanced scoring attack to take the win. Whitt Welch led the way with 13 points, while Charlie Brantley had 10 points. Gavin White had eight points while Lucas Thomas had 7 points. Jack Harkins and Jake Freeny each had 5 points apiece.
