Leake Academy Rebelettes improve to 16-3 on court

The Leake Academy girls added two more wins to their total, bouncing back from a loss last week.

The Rebelettes took a pair of double-digit wins as they beat Madison St. Joseph 67-44 and Desoto County Academy 70-39.

The Rebels split a pair of games, falling 35-31 to Madison St. Joseph but rebounded to beat Freedom Prep 60-34.

The Leake girls improved to 16-3 and will play Washington School on Wednesday at the Columbus Christian Tournament. The Rebels have three games scheduled next week as they play in the Columbus Christian Tournament and will play Washington on Wednesday, Benton Academy on Thursday and Amory Christian on Friday. 

Leake will return from Christmas break and play at Oak Hill Academy on Tuesday, Jan. 2 and then at Wayne Academy on Thursday, Jan. 4. Leake will finish the week with a home contest against against rival Simpson Academy on Friday, Jan. 5.

Leake girls 67, 

Madison St. Joseph 44

The Rebelettes shut out the Lady Bruins in the first period and cruised to a 33-point win on Wednesday.

Leake dominated the first period and led 18-0 and then outscored the Lady Bruins 24-18 in the second to lead 42-18 at the half. Leake outscored Madison 14-12 and ld 55-30 going to the fourth. Madison took the fourth period 14-11 for the final margin.

Eighth grader Sarah Prince led Leake with 14 points while Jenna Allen had 11 points and four rebounds. Marleigh Myers had 10 points and nine rebounds. Addie Crowe had her best night with 10 points while Hannah Clark had five points and five rebounds. Caroline Cheatham also chipped in five points.

St. Joseph boys 35, 

Leake 31

The Rebels weren’t able to hold onto an early lead as the Bruins held on late to take a tight four-point win.

Leake led 11-10 at the end of the first period but St. Joseph outscored the Rebels 12-9 in the second period to lead 22-20 at the half. Leake took the second period 7-6 to cut the lead to 28-27 going to the fourth. The Bruins outscored the Rebels 7-4 in the fourth to take the win.

Samuel Prince led Leake with 15 points while Taite Edwards had six points and Ben Jackson chipped in four points. 

Leake girls 70, 

Desoto County Academy 39

The Rebelettes pulled away in the second half and cruised to a 21-point win over the Lady Ambassadors.

Leake held a 17-10 lead at the end of the first and Desoto took the second period 11-7 to cut the lead to 24-21 at the half. Leake then pulled away in the second half, outscoring Desoto 25-8 in the third and 21-10 in the fourth to take the win.

Jenna Allen came off the bend and had another big game for Leake with 19 points while Marleigh Myers had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Olivia Rudolph had 10 points and seven rebounds while Caroline Cheatham had eight points. Hannah Clark also had seven points and six rebounds while Anna Morgan Young had five points. 

Leake boys 60, 

Freedom Prep 34

The Rebels finished each half strong and cruised to a 26-point win over the Eagles.

Leake held a slim 15-13 lead in the first period and then outscored Freedom 18-4 in the second to lead 30-17 at the half. Freedom took the third period 10-8 to cut the lead to 38-27 going to the fourth. But the Rebels outscored the Eagles 22-7 in the fourth to pull away and take the win.

Samuel Prince led Leake with 20 points while Gage Warren had 11 points. Matthew Nowell also chipped in nine points.
