Leake Academy basketball teams pick up wins

The Leake Academy boys stayed unbeaten in district play and brought home two blowout wins this past week.

The Rebels hammered East Rankin 64-27 on Friday and then beat Winston Academy 65-24 on Saturday.

The Leake girls fell behind early and drooped a 68-62 decision to East Rankin on Friday but rebounded to hammer Winston 60-24 on Saturday.

The Leake girls move to 14-3 while the Rebels improve to 11-5 and 3-0 in district play.

Leake will play in the Kirk Tournament this week as the girls will take on Madison St. Joseph at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and the boys will follow at 5:15 p.m. On Wednesday, the Leake girls will play Marshall at 11 a.m. on Wednesday while the boys will follow at 12:15 p.m.

East Rankin girls 68,

The Rebelettes posted a furious comeback but fell short as they dropped. Six-point contest to the Lady Patriots in district play on Friday.

East Rankin held a slim 16-13 lead at the end of the first period before outscored Leake 26-16 in the second period to lead 42-29 at the half. East Rankiin took the third period 14-12 to extend the lead to 56-41 going to the fourth. Leake put on a furious rally in the fourth, outscoring East Rankin 21-12 but fell short.

Anna Morgan Young led Leake with 25 points, including seven 3-pointers. Sarah Prince had nine points and four assists while Jenna Allen had seven points four steals and three assists. Marleigh Myers had six points and seven rebounds while Olivia Rudolph and Hanna Clark each had five points and four rebounds.

Leake boys 64, 

East Rankin 27

The Rebels dominated the first half and cruised to a 37-point win over the Patriots to stay unbeaten in district play.

Leake started fast as they led 28-6 in the first period and then outscored East Rankin 27-4 in the second to lead 55-10 at the half. With the clock running in the second half, East Rankin outscored Leake 8-2 in the third and 9-7 in the fourth. 

Taite Edwards led Leake with 14 points while Samuel Prince had 13 points. Gage Warren had nine points while Carter Seal chipped in six points. 

Leake girls 60, 

Winston Academy 26

The Rebelettes outscored the Lady Patriots in every period and cruised to a 34-point win on Saturday.

Leake led 10-4 at the end of the first and then outscored Winston 16-5 in the second to lead 26-9 at the half. Leake then put the game away in the third, outscoring Winston 21-8 to lead 47-17 going to the fourth. Leake took the fourth period 13-9 for the final margin.

Marleigh Myers led Leake with 14 points while Jenna Allen had 10 points. Codi Breedlove had eight points while Ella Bell, Hannah Clark and Addie Crowe each had six points apiece. 

Leake boys 65, 

Winston Academy 24

The Rebels outscored the Patriots in every period and cruised to a 41-point win on Saturday. 

Leake held a slim 11-8 lead in the first period and then pulled away and outscored Winston 27-8 in the second to lead 38-16 at the half. Leake then outscored Winston 12-2 in the second to lead 50-18 going to the fourth. Leake finished by outscoring Winston 15-6 in the fourth to take the win.

Samuel Prince led Leake with 15 points while Taite Edwards had 14 points. Jack Harkins had seven points while Lucas Thomas had six points.
