The Union Lady Yellowjackets picked up three wins this past week, including a one over the two-time defending Class 2A champions.

Union opened the week with a 46-34 win over West Lauderdale and then beat Lake 49-42 on Thursday. They finished the week with an easy 59-26 win over Clarkdale. 

The Union boys opened with a pair of losses, falling 57-33 to West Lauderdale and 63-37 to Lake. But the Yellowjackets bounced back with a 61-52 win over Clarkdale on Friday to get their first win of the season. 

Union will return to play this week as they host West Lauderdale on Tuesday and Nanih Waiya on Thursday. They will finish the week on Saturday at Noxapater. 

Union girls 49, Lake 42

The Union Lady Yellowjackets got a big win at home as they knocked off the two-time defending 2A champions on Thursday. 

Union came out hot as they hit five 3-points in the first period and outscored Lake 21-13 in the first period. Lake took the second period 9-5 and Union led 26-22 at the half. Lake also took the third period 12-11 to cut the margin to 37-34 but Union outscored Lake 12-8 in the fourth to take the win. 

Rymia Craft led Union with 19 points and eight rebounds while Kylee Madden had 15 points and four rebounds. Sydney Coward had eight points, three rebounds and four steals while Gracyn Tillman chipped in six points. 

For Lake Lyric Lay had 13 points while Nakijah Gammage and Taylor Clark each had eight points apiece. Kaliauna Jones also chipped in seven points.

Union girls 46, 

West Lauderdale 34

The Lady Yellowjackets got their first win of the season as they took a 12-point win over the Lady Knights. 

Union used a steady offense in the first half as they outscored West Lauderdale 10-8 in the first and 10-6 in the second to lead 20-14 at the half. Union pulled away in the third by outscoring West 14-4 to take a 34-18 lead into the fourth. West took the fourth period 16-12 for the final margin. 

Senior Kylee Madden led the Lady Yellowjackets with 16 points, four rebounds and four steals along with eight deflections. Junior Rymia Craft had a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Gracyn Tillman had seven rebounds and three steals while Senior Sydney Coward had seven points. 

West Lauderdale boys 57, Union 33

The Yellowjackets struggled in the field against the Class 4A Knights.

West led 16-8 at the end of the first and 25-15 at the half. West continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring Union 10-9 in the third and 22-9 in the fourth.

Kamarion Rushing led Union with 16 points while U’darrion Hickman and Zi Buckley had five points apiece. 

Union girls 59, Clarkdale 26

The Lady Yellowjackets used a big third period to pull away and take an easy 33-point win over the Lady Bulldogs on Friday.

Union jumped out to a 17-11 lead in the first period and then outscored Clarkdale 20-9 to take a 37-20 lead at the half. Union then put the game away in the third, outscoring Clarkdale 20-4 to take a 57-24 lead going to the fourth.

Junior Gracyn Tillman led Union with 20 points, three steals and two rebounds while senior Kylee Madden had 15 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Sydney Coward had 11 points and three rebounds while Rymia Craft had six points and 10 rebounds. Tiara Campbell had five points and four rebounds while Elle Killen had six points and two steals. 

Union boys 60, Clarkdale 52

The Yellowjackets got their first win of the season with an eight-point victory over the Bulldogs on Friday.

Union led 16-11 at the end of the first period and then outscored Clarkdale 15-6 in the second to lead 31-17 at the half. Union took the third period 16-15 and led 47-32 going to the fourth, where Clarkdale outscored the Yellowjackets 20-13 for the final margin.

Zi Buckley and U’Darrion Hickman led Union with 15 points apiece while Kamarion Rushing had 14 points. Keon Hutchins had 10 points while Mason Tucker added six points.
