We share, with sorrow-laden hearts, the news of the passing of Fay Galloway Hall. She passed away on June 29th, 2024, in Union, MS, her hometown, where she was born on November 13th, 1938.

A matriarch to her family and her community, she was much beloved by all whose lives she impacted. She loved things that grew. Be they plants, animals, or people, it made no difference. She fostered them all. She was a farmer and cook by trade, and her gardening produced the most beautiful and aromatic flowers.

Fay had a mastery of baking cakes. She catered for all occasions, especially weddings (even her own), and she passed down her knowledge to many aspiring bakers through her classes and personal guidance.

She was also a member of the Mississippi Syrup Makers Association, and every year, in the cool of autumn, you could find her tending the same stove and tools her parents made before they passed the tradition to her. Her mill brought many members of the community together to join her in the creation of the most divine sugar cane syrup.

She was a revered member of her religious community, and all knew her as an embodiment of the goodness of humanity. All were welcome at her home and her table.

Fay will be sorely missed. She was a creative, charitable, beautiful, and joyful soul. As we all work through our grief at the loss of her life, we ask everyone to honor and mirror her kindness and acceptance, to keep her memory, and to plant something in your garden and help it grow.

She is preceded in death by her husband Russell O. Hall Sr; parents, Victor and Virginia Ridout Galloway; sisters, Evelyn Crosby, Victoria Galloway; brothers, Wendell, Lewis, and twin Ray Galloway.

Survivors include her daughter, Ginger H. Brooks (Bill Ready Jr.); Rusty Hall; (4) grandchildren, Adam G. Brooks (Kelsey), Erin H. King (Cody); Erin Rickman (DJ), Will Ready; (2) great-grandchildren, Cooper King, Spencer King and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Gary Agent, Dr. Glen May, Terry Lanterman, John Williams, Tim Gibbs, Chris Rogers.

Special thanks to: Annie Batiste, Mavis Smith, Linda Skinner, Vallarie Scott.
