Union coach Brad Breland has been looking forward to leading Mississippi's All-Stars against Alabama's best players since he was selected by his peers in June to coach in annual Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game.

Now, he's getting to live it.

Breland, who has coached at his alma mater since 2001, has spent the week in the Pine Belt, preparing for Saturday's noon kickoff at M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg.

"I am extremely honored to represent our school and the community of Union," Breland said. "Many wonderful people have contributed through the years to my success and I am grateful."

Breland, fresh off leading his Yellowjackets to a 6-5 finish and a playoff berth, is serving as head coach in the All-Star game for the first time. He previously served as an assistant coach in 2007 and 2015, when his brother Todd Breland led Mississippi to a win over their cross-border rivals.

"This is my first opportunity to be a head coach for the Mississippi All-Stars," Breland said. "I love being around exceptionally talented athletes that have a great work ethic."

Among the players selected for this year's game is another name that will be familiar to Neshoba County residents - Philadelphia wide receiver Lideatrick Griffin. Neshoba Central head coach Patrick Schoolar will serve as offensive line coach for the Mississippi squad.

Mississippi has posted back-to-back wins in the annual game, which is now in its 33rd year.

The game will be broadcast on eight Mississippi Public Broadcasting Stations around the state, including WMAW out of Meridian (Channel 14 locally). It can also be streamed online at www.FNUTL.com and www.MScoaches.com.
