Yellowjackets pick up pair of wins on diamond, lose to Raleigh

The Union baseball team won two out of three games last week, including a sweep of Scott Central. 

Union took two games from Scott Central, winning 9-7 on Tuesday and 14-4 on Friday. The Yellowjackets then lost 18-2 on Saturday. 

Union will host Quitman on Tuesday and play at Lake on Friday before beginning division play the next week with Eupora. 

Union 9, Scott Central 7

The Yellowjackets  scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning and held on to take an extra-inning win over the Rebels on Tuesday. 

Hayden Dolan was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Samuel Alawine was 2-for-4 with two runs scored Mason Tucker also had two RBIs while Austin Lee and Jacob Freeman also had singles for Union. 

Rafe Manning pitched two innings and gave up two runs on a walk while striking out four. Tanner Watkins pitched 2/3 of an inning while Jacob Freeman pitched 3 1/3 innings while giving up five runs on five hits and a walk. Cooper Fultz pitched 1 1/3 innings while giving up a hit and a walk while striking out three. 

Union 14, Scott Central 4

The Yellowjackets scored in every inning and took a run-rule win on Friday. 

Union had 12 hits and drew 10 walks in the contest. Samuel Alawine was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Hayden Dolan was 2-for-2 with a double and two walks. Rafe Manning also doubled and scored three runs while Jacob Freeman singled and drove in four runs. Jackson Flake was 2-for-2 with two two RBIs while Austin Lee singled and scored twice. Mason Tucker also tripled and scored a run. 

Cooper Fultz started on the mound and pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up four runs, only one earned, on four hits and two walks while striking out four to pick up the win. Alawine pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up three hits while striking out one. Tanner Watkins got the last out for the Yellowjackets. 

Raleigh 18, Union 2

The Lions used a 14-run inning to take a four-inning, run-rule win on Saturday. 

Union had just three hits. Rafe Manning singled and scored a run while Samuel Alawine singled and had an RBI. Cooper Fultz singled while Jacob Freeman had an RBI. 

Alawine started and pitched two innings, giving up three runs on three hits while striking out five. Tanner Watkins pitched an inning and gave up three runs on one hit. Manning only got one out but gave up seven runs on four hits and three walks while Turner Johnson also got just one out while giving up five unearned runs on two hits and a walk.
