The Choctaw Central Warriors played Lake tough for four quarters but fell just short 16-14 Friday night in prep football action.

The Warriors, now 0-4, will host Bay Springs  on Thursday. The Bulldogs come in at 3-1 following their 46-28 win over Philadelphia.

“We were disappointed,” Coach Ed Routh said. “We played hard but couldn’t pull it out in the end. We have another tough game coming up with Bay Springs.  I wanted us to have a tough opponent before the region schedule starts.”

Jordan Vaughn bulled his way into the end zone from seven yards out to put the Warriors on the scoreboard with 6:16 left in the first quarter. Christian Davis kicked the extra point and Choctaw Central led 7-0.

Lake responded with a drive that resulted in a one-yard scoring run. The Hornets ran in the two point conversion and led 8-7 with 3:35 left in the second quarter.

The Hornets took the second half kickoff and got into the red zone thanks to a 60-yard run. The Hornets would later score on a 9-yard run. The try for two was good and the Hornets led 16-7 with 9:33 left in the third quarter. The Warriors would score in the fourth quarter when Keyshawn Ben caught 60-yard pass from Cooper Wesley. The kick was good and that’s where it stood at the final buzzer.

Vaughn was the leading rusher with 164 yards. Ben had 170 receiving yards and Cruz Wilson had 80 receiving yards. Richie Shoemake and Keithan Anderson were the leading tackler with six stops apiece.
