A 15-year-old has been arrested in connection with a shooting last week that sent a Brandon man to the hospital.

The teen was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, according to Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons.

Officers on Sept. 4 responded to Valley View Drive at about 8:30 p.m. to a report of shots fired where one victim had been shot in the leg, Lyons said.

The shooting appeared to be the result of an ongoing dispute that evening between the two individuals, officials said.

Lyons said the victim refused to give any information to officers regarding the shooting. The victim was taken to Neshoba General and then to The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, police said.

The victim has been released from the hospital, Lyons said.

Lyons said officers determined the juvenile was a suspect and picked him up on Sept. 5, at his home for questioning and he was subsequently charged.

Lyons said the alleged shooter is still in jail. He said the suspect had only lived in town for about a week after moving here from the Gulf Coast.
