Season winding down for 17-2 Lady Rockets

The Neshoba Central Lady Rockets will be tested in the final four games of the regular season as the state fast-pitch playoffs near.

The Lady Rockets entered the week with a 17-2 record. They were to play Southeast Lauderdale Tuesday and Lake on Thursday, They visit West Lauderdale next Monday and close out the season at Wayne County next Tuesday,

“We are ready for the playoffs,” said Coach Zach Taylor as his team is seeking its ninth straight Fast-Pitch state championship. “We have won our region so we will get a first round bye. The play-in round will start next Friday. We will be tested in our final three games and that should help prepare us.”

The Lady Rockets made quick work of Canton as they scored nine runs in the first inning and nine in the second to take the win.

Kyli Truss was the winner pitcher. She had six strike outs in two innings of work and gave up one run.

Truss helped her cause by hitting a home run. Charmayne Morris hit two triples and Hama’ya Fielder hit one. Heather Nicholson hit two doubles while Anna Bell, KK Goodin, Chloe Thompson and Mya Willis all hit one.

Lanayah Henry went the distance as she pitched the Lady Rockets to victory,

The Lady Rockets scored two in the first, one in the second and six in the fourth.

Henry struck out six and only gave up two hits.

Mauhree Jones hit a double and a single while knocking in two runs. Tenly Grisham and Hama’ya Fielder both had one hit and scored two runs. Charmayne Morris hit a double.
