Rebels baseball squad loses to Tri-County, ties Jackson Academy

The Leake Academy baseball team got in two games this past week, losing one and tying the other.

The Rebels lost 10-1 to Tri-County Academy and then tied Jackson Academy 4-4 in a doubleheader at Trustmark Park in Pearl.

Leake will return to action next week with three scheduled games as they host Winston Academy on Tuesday and play at Jackson Academy on Thursday. The Rebels will finish the week at home against Newton County Academy. 

Tri-County 10, 

Leake Academy 1

Leake took an early lead only to allow Tri-County to score eight runs in the middle innings to take a nine-run win on Thursday in the first game of a doubleheader. 

Leake led 1-0 after the first while Tri-County scored three in the third and five in the fifth to lead 8-1 after four innings. Tri-County added single runs in the fifth and sixth to take the win.

Leake actually outhit Tri-County 6-5 in the contest. Rhett Stovall was 2-for-3 and scored the team’s only run. Charlie Brantley was 2-f0r3 while Tyler Winstead doubled. Rece Atkinson had Leake’s other hit.

Atkinson started the game on the mound and pitched three innings, giving up three runs on one hit and three walks while striking out two. Winstead came in next and gave up five runs on one hit and four walks without getting an out. Caden Stovall pitched the next 1 2/3 innings and gave up one unearned run on two hits and three walks while striking out two. 

Tanner Walsworth picked the last 2/3 of an inning and gave up one run on on hit and one walk.

Leake Academy 4, 

Jackson Academy 4

The team teams tied after eight innings in a time-limit game in the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday.

Lake scored two in the second to take an early lead while JA scored three in the top of the fourth to go ahead 3-2. Leake tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the fifth. Both teams scored runs in the eighth inning for the final score.

Leake had six hits in the contest. Rhett Stovall singled and scored a run while Tyler Winstead singled and drove in a run. Grayson McDonald singled and scored twice. Easton Page singled and drove in a run while John Donovan also singled.

Rhett Stovall started on the mound and pitched four innings, giving up three runs won four hits while striking out three. Donovan pitched the next inning and gave up one hit while Coby Kemp came in and pitched the next three innings, giving up one unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out seven.
