Rebelettes handed first loss of season on the court

The Leake Academy boys continued their strong start to the season with a pair of easy wins last week.

The Rebels hammered a pair of opponents, beating Pillow 66-36 on Tuesday and Central Hinds 60-36 on Thursday.

The Leake girls split their two games as Pillow handed the Rebelettes their first loss with a 49-34 setback. Leake then bounced back and beat Central Hinds 51-42 on Thursday.

Leake was scheduled to return to action on Monday as they play in the East Rankin Tournament. On Monday, the Leake boys will play Brookhaven at 2:45 p.m. while the girls will play Copiah at 4 p.m. On Tuesday, the Leake girls will play Brookhaven at 1:30 p.m. and the boys will play Copiah at 2:45 p.m.

Leake boys 66, Pillow 36

The Rebels outscored the Mustangs in ever period and cruised to a 30-point win on Tuesday.

Leake jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the first period and then outscored Pillow 15-11 in the second to lead 29-16 at the half. Leake continued to pull away as they outscored Pillow 19-10 in the third and 14-12 in the fourth. 

Samuel Prince led Leake with 13 points while Gage Warren had 10 points. Jack Harkins and Trey Clark had seven points while Jake Freeny and Taite Edwards each had six points. 

Pillow girls 49, Leake 34

The Lady Mustangs pulled away in the second and third quarters to hand the Rebelettes their first loss of the season.

Pillow held a slim 6-5 lead at the end of the first and then outscored Leake 21-8 in the second to lead 27-13 at the half. The Mustangs then outscored the Rebelettes 17-8 in the third and led 44-21 going to the fourth. Leake took the fourth period 13-5 for the final margin.

Katye Jones led Leake with 15 points and eight rebounds while Caroline Cheatham and Anna Morgan Young each had five points. Addie Crowe also had four points and seven rebounds for Leake.

Leake boys 60, 

Central Hinds 36

The Rebels pulled away in the second half and took a 24-point win over the Cougars on Thursday.

Leake outscored Central Hinds 10-11 in the first period and each team scored 10 points in the second period as the Rebels led 29-21 at the half. Leake then pulled away as they outscored Central Hinds 16-5 in the third and 15-9 in the fourth to take the win.

Samuel Prince led Leake with 26 points and passed 1,000 career points in the game. Lucas Thomas had 13 points while Trey Clark and Benjamin Jackson each had six points apiece. 

Leake girls 51, 

Central Hinds 42

The Rebelettes built an early lead and fought off the Lady Cougars on Thursday night in Madden.

Leake opened up a 12-5 lead in the first period and each team scored 11 points in the second period to lead 23-16 at the half. Central Hinds then outscored Leake 18-15 in the third to cut the lead to 38-34 going to the fourth period. Leake then outscored Central Hinds 13-8 in the fourth to pull away and take the win.

Katye Jones led Leake with 18 points and seven rebounds  while Sarah Prince had 10 points. Olivia Rudolph had four points and six rebounds while Anna Morgan Young had five points and three rebounds. Marleigh Myers had four points and four rebounds while Addie Crowe had four points.
