Philadelphia basketball faces off against region foes

The Philadelphia Tornado basketball teams have two Region 5-2A road games scheduled for this week.

The Tornadoes travel to Lake on Tuesday night and to Newton High School on Friday night. The Lady Tornadoes come into the week with a 6-7 overall record while the Tornadoes stand at 5-8 overall. Both teams are 1-1 in the region standings.

Both Philadelphia teams picked up victories against Nanih Waiya last week. The Lady Tornadoes won their game 44-36 while the Philadelphia boys won 56-42.

Leading 14-11 after the first quarter, the Lady Tornadoes outscored the Lady Warriors 15-6 in the second quarter to post a 29-17 halftime lead. Nanih Waiya battled back, outscoring Philadelphia 19-15 in the second half but Philadelphia held on for the win.

Jaiden Burnside led Philadelphia with 17 points. Hailey Burnside scored 11 points while Zariyah Jackson scored 10 points.
