Authorities have determined no foul play was involved in an incident reported Sunday where an accidental discharge of a shotgun at a residence on County Road 717 sent a Neshoba County man to the hospital with “extensive injuries to one of his feet,” Sheriff Eric Clark said.

Clark said his office received the call on Sunday at 7:09 p.m. from a mother who reported her son was accidentally shot in the foot and was driving himself to Neshoba General in a personal vehicle

Deputies met the victim, a 50-year-old male, at the hospital and determined that the incident was unintentional and no charges have been filed associated with the incident, according to Clark.

The investigation determined the shotgun, loaded with buckshot, had fallen from behind a door which caused the gun to go off and shot the victim in the foot. Clark said the report did not specify which foot was shot.

Clark said the incident was an example of why strict firearm safety practices are important.
