Lady Rockets continue dominating win streak

The Neshoba Central Lady Rockets continued their winning streak last Friday with a 53-50 victory over Callaway as one of three victories over the week.

Senior point guard Kailyn Willis set the tone to begin the first quarter when she nailed a three-pointer as the Lady Rockets opened up on a 7-0 run. Leading 9-2, Willis dropped back and hit another three-pointer to give the Lady Rockets a 12-2 lead. 

Callaway made a small run of its own, narrowing the lead to 13-8 before forward senior Erica Lyons drained another three-pointer to extend Neshoba’s lead to 16-8. 

Williams wasn’t done, adding another three-pointer to give the Lady Rockets a comfortable 21-8 lead in the first quarter.

Callaway rallied in the beginning of the second quarter, narrowing the lead to 28-21, when senior point guard Zharia Leflore paused their momentum with a steal. 

The back-and-forth continued but the Lady Rockets never lost sight of the win. Leading 41-33 in the fourth quarter, senior shooting guard Jakaylin York nailed a three-pointer to further extend the lead. Up 51-41, sophomore point guard Kyli Truss made it down the court on a fast break for a two-point layup to extend the lead even more. 

Callaway turned it on offensively, coming within one score before the final buzzer, with the Lady Rockets winning 53-50. 

Neshoba had 44 rebounds, 8 assists, and a dominating 11 steals in the game. 

Last Tuesday, the Lady Rockets completely dominated Vicksburg, winning 81-23. And on Saturday, Neshoba Central defeated Germantown 56-49. 

Against Germantown, senior Alana Rouser led the squad with 16 points and 5 steals. 

The Lady Rockets were sitting at 21-1 on the season and 5-0 in district play. They were scheduled to play Columbus (1-16) on Tuesday.
