Kaedre Denson of Philadelphia and Natalie Donald of Union were both named to the Dean’s List at the University of West Alabama for the 2024 Spring academic semester. Kaedre is majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies and is part of the Class of 2028. Natalie is majoring in Psychology and is also part of the Class of 2028. Congratulations on this achievement!

Congratulations to three area seniors who graduated from the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science this year. 

Iysiahs Manny York of Philadelphia, graduated in the Class of 2024. Iysiahs previously attended Choctaw Central High School, and is the child of Lucius York and Twyla York. Iysiahs will be attending Harvard University this fall.  

Chloe Janae Wesley of Walnut Grove graduated in the Class of 2024. Chloe previously attended Choctaw Central High School, and is the child of Jay Wesley and Danielle Wesley. Chloe will be attending Mississippi State University this fall. 

Laykin Paige Dixon of Union has graduated in the Class of 2024. Laykin previously attended Neshoba Central High School, and is the child of Samantha Anthony. Laykin will be attending Northeastern University this fall. Way to go!

  Marlee Washington, Distinguished Young Woman of Neshoba County, will be one of 29 Mississippi high school seniors competing for more than $35,000 in college scholarships when the 2025 Distinguished Young Women of Mississippi Program gets under way Thursday, July 11, in Meridian.

The state program is now in its 68th year celebrating and spotlighting outstanding achievements of the state’s best and brightest high school women. 

Marlee, the daughter of Mangold and Melonie Washington of Philadelphia, attends Neshoba Central High School High School. Academic accomplishments, membership and hobbies include the following: Beta Club, Junior Class President, Varsity Cheerleader, State Competition Powerlifter and Student Council She plans to attend Spelman College to pursue a career in Pediatrics.

If selected as Distinguished Young Woman of Mississippi, Marlee will compete in the Distinguished Young Women of 2025 finals in June of 2025, held in Mobile, Alabama. There she will compete for the opportunity to win a share of more than $100,000 in cash scholarship awards, including the $40,000 national title scholarship award.

Liza Long was selected to participate in the 43rd Cohort of Mississippi Governor’s School that ran from June 2-15. Mississippi Governor’s Schools is a residential honors program established in 1981 and designed to provide academic, creative, and leadership experiences for a limited number of rising high school juniors and seniors who have demonstrated exceptional ability and achievement in their studies.

Liza is the daughter of Jackie Long and Beth Long of Philadelphia. She has completed 10th grade at Leake Academy where she has received awards in Mathematics, English, Science, History, Art, along with Head of School Awards. 

Liza participates in Love Out Loud and Rise Against Hunger. She plans to pursue medical research at the University of Mississippi upon graduating.
