James "Jimmy" Hardy Thames, Sr.

Graveside services for James “Jimmy” Hardy Thames, Sr. were held Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. from Cedarlawn Cemetery with Rev. Bob Rambo officiating. McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thames, 79, of Starkville passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Jimmy was born in Newton and graduated from Bay Springs High School and attended Jones Jr. College and graduated from MS State University. He started his career in the Banking industry, then worked for MS Economic Development for the state and MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, then retired from MS Department of Corrections.

Survivors include his wife of over 23 years, Brenda Kilby Thames; sons, James Hardy Thames, Jr. (Katherine) and Jonathan Plez Tyler Thames (Allison); four grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and their families.

Mr. Thames was preceded in death by his parents, James McDonald Thames and Carolyn Blount Thames; sister, Joan Thames Howse.
