A Louisville man was arrested after he evaded law enforcement for more than two hours last Thursday wearing nothing but handcuffs and a pair of sweatpants.

The man, Christopher Hughes, 32, 1834 Bethel Road, Louisville, was arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking of a controlled substance, trafficking of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana in a vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, simple assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, speeding, no insurance, no tag, no driver’s license and possession of paraphernalia, according to Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark.

Hughes was out on a $191,000 bond by Sunday afternoon.

Law Enforcement first encountered Hughes on Thursday, June 13, at about 7 p.m. when a Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper made a traffic stop for speeding on Highway 21 north just past the intersection with Highway 491 near the Bogue Chitto swamp just a mile from the Kemper County line.

Hughes was driving a red Chevrolet pickup with an unidentified passenger. Clark said the trooper handcuffed Hughes while he attempted to talk to the passenger. The passenger then began to fight the trooper, and Hughes made his way around to help.

The Trooper was able to fight the men off using his Taser, according to Clark.

“He is okay and unharmed,” Clark said of the lawman. “In fact, he was able to transport Hughes to the Neshoba County jail after we caught up to him.”

Both men fled into the woods south of Highway 21 after they were tased.

The Neshoba County Sheriff’s Office was soon called to the scene, along with support from the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office, agents from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and other MHP troopers.

Clark said his office received a report at about 9 p.m. that a suspicious male with no shirt had approached a residence on Highway 21 North about a mile from where the traffic stop happened.

Clark said the resident refused to let the individual in to use the phone and called the Sheriff’s Office.

Clark said Hughes was soon located, still in handcuffs, a little further up Highway 21 near Road 1727 and was taken into custody.
