March 19, 1943

Mr. and Mrs. George Day of Decatur are announcing the arrival of a son, Richard Edward Day, on Thursday, March 11th.  Mrs. Day will be remembered as Miss Bernice Darby. The mother and baby are at Philadelphia Hospital. 

Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Moore of Philadelphia, Route 7, announce the marriage of their daughter, Masie Ila Moore of Meridian, to Cadet Bert Winstead, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Winstead of Union, Route 8.      

                

March 19, 1953

Mrs. Max Beall and daughter Susan of Meridian, left last week to join her husband, Major Beall, who is stationed at Weathers Field, England. They plan to live their three years. 

Lydian Music Club will present its third annual Guest Young Artists Tuesday night, March 24th. Only local artists have been invited to play in this program since one of the major goals of the club is to promote the performance and appreciation of music in our city.     

       

     March 21 1963   

Two local students received superior ratings in piano at the Meridian Music Festival. Mike Perry, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Perry, and Anna Spenser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen W. Spenser won honors at the festival sponsored by the Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs in conjunction with the National Federation. 

Miss Ann McClain, student at Belhaven College in Jackson, spent the weekend here in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack McClain. 

March 22, 1973

Old Neshoba Hall- Hundreds of Neshoba County Students lived in this building over the years, from the time it was built in 1928 until demolition began recently.  Neshoba County Hall has been replaced by a new structure at East Central Junior College at Decatur. Efforts on the part of Neshoba County alumni to save the building, failed.  

Promotion- Kenneth M. Bounds, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Bounds of Route 1, Neshoba, has recently been promoted to Spec. 5 taking part in the presentation ceremony are Lt. Col. Brown and Capt. Mutter.  Bounds is stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.                          

March 23, 1983

Philadelphia Mayor, Charles McClain, shares ribbon cutting duties with little Lacie Wilkerson at the grand opening of her father’s new men’s clothing store, Steve’s On The Square. Also present at the ceremony are: Mrs. Jenny Lynn Wilkerson; Steve Wilkerson, owner; Lacie; Mayor McClain; Nancy Hardy; Sally Kirkland; and Donna Miller.    .        

        

March 24, 1993 

The Neshoba Central High School Beta Club scrapbook was a runner-up during competition at the State Beta Convention.  The scrapbook team will also be attending the National Beta Convention.  Team members are, Kerri Sherman, Deanna Smith, Jessica Warren, Whitney Salter, Shana Sharp, Jennifer Thomas, Mandy Goldman, and Rana Hall. 

Heather Eakes was recently crowned Queen of the Little Miss Mississippi Preliminary Pageant in the teen division.  She also received trophies for fashion, photogenic, and model.  In August, she will be attending the state pageant in Biloxi.  Heather is the daughter of Earnest and Penny Eakes. 

      

March 19, 2003

George and Voncile Parker will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary April 13 at Trinity Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Their children are George O., Barbara, Judy, David, and Susan.

Philadelphia-Neshoba County Parks Director Christ Burt accepts a check for $4,000 from Stanley Salter, president of Philadelphia Rotary Club to be used for the football program at the parks. 

             

March 20, 2013

Miranda Crenshaw signed a softball scholarship to play for Meridian Community College on Jan. 22.  The signing ceremony took place in the Library on the Neshoba Central campus. Present were Mother, Kerri Crenshaw; Miranda Crenshaw; Father, Jody Crenshaw; Brother, Mitch Crenshaw; Assistant Principal, Jimmy Buchanan; Assistant Principal, LaShon Horne; Head Softball Coach, Trae Embry; MCC Head Coach, Faith Robinson; and MCC Assistant Coach, Rachel Hurley. 

Dr. Juantina Johnson, formerly of Rush Foundation Hospital in DeKalb, will serve as the administrator over the medical staff at the Choctaw Health Center.
