March 5, 1943

Mrs. Tom DeWeese entertained her bridge club Tuesday afternoon, at her home on Poplar Ave. Lovely spring flowers added their charm to the attractive home.

Announcement is being made of the arrival of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Strum of Union, Rt. 3, at the Philadelphia Hospital on Feb. 26th.  The baby has been named Marvin Kent Strum.    

                

March 5, 1953

Pvt. Jeremiah Horne, Jr., son of Jeremiah Horne of Gum Street, Philadelphia, recently arrived at the Engineer Replacement Training Center, Fort Belvoir, VA.  There he is undergoing 16 weeks of basic training to qualify him as a soldier of the Corps of Engineers.    

       

      March 7, 1963   

The Philadelphia Tornadoes bowed out of the state basketball finals in Jackson last Friday afternoon, losing to the Hattiesburg team, 72-54.  Dwight Cheatham has 23 points for the tornadoes.

Cathy Pope, queen of hearts in Neshoba County, was third place winner for the state contest.  She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Pope.                  

March 8, 1973

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cleveland of Decatur will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, March 18, in their home.  The reception will be from 2pm until 4pm.                        

March 9, 1983

Jackie Randell Burks Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Randell Burks Sr. of Magnolia, Ark. Celebrated his first birthday on March 3rd.  He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Burks of Philadelphia and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Moody of Kenner, La.

Kristin, Brian, and Karen Collins, celebrated their first birthdays March 7 in the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Collins.   .        

        

March 10, 1993 

Wyndinca Bell, was the overall winner in the upper elementary division of the science fair held recently at Bogue Chitto Elementary School. Vera Jefferson was the overall winner in the lower elementary division, grades K-3. 

      

March 5, 2003

Hayes Maxey celebrated his first birthday on Feb. 2 with a “John Deere” party at his Nana’s house.  He is the son of Max and Michele Maxey. His grandparents are Danny and Lanortta Maxey and Mike and Carol McAdory.

Lindsey Nicole Hancock was crowned Queen of Hearts on Feb. 8. In the 16-18 age divison.  She is the daughter of Steve and Lynda Hancock.  Lindsey is a junior at Neshoba Central High School.              

      

March 6, 2013

Casea Cheatham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Cheatham, exhibited the first place European Cross Beef commercial heifer at the Neshoba County Junior Livestock Show held recently at the Neshoba Coliseum. 

Chandler Fortenberry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Fortenberry, exhibited the Reserve Champion Angus Heifer, at the Neshoba County Junior Livestock Show.
