Eleven Neshoba County students received degrees in summer commencement exercises at Mississippi State University. They were among 741 who received degrees.

Mrs. Mary Gipson became Philadelphia's Ward One alderman Tuesday morning after taking the oath in office. The oath was administered by Circuit Judge Marcus Gordon.

The arrival of Silver Star Hotel and Casino on July 1 has increased business for some area businesses, others haven't noticed any change. Convenience stores and Realtors have shown an increase in sales while department stores haven't seen much of a change in profits.

A $5 million profit was seen by Neshoba County General Hospital and Nursing home during fiscal 2013, marking the third consecutive year that revenues exceeded expenses and increasing the facility's net position, audited financial statements showed.
