March 17, 1944
Sgt. Willard B. Green has recently been promoted to his present rank from that of a corporal. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Green of the Bond community and is now in service in the Southwest Pacific for a return engagement.
Sec. Lieut. Harold H. Howell is missing in action, having failed to return to his base in England from a raid over Germany on March 3, according to the War Department. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.L. Howell of this city, received this notice from the Adjutant General late last week.
March 18, 1954
Miss Alice Ebba Hamill lent dignity and royalty to the parade led by the Philadelphia High School Band as the climax to the weeklong Dairy Festival which came to a close Saturday. Miss Hamill, who is Miss Neshoba County, was crowned the 1954 queen of the Southeast Miss. Livestock Show held in Forest yesterday.
March 19, 1964
President T. A. Webb has announced that the Board of Directors of the Citizens Bank of Philadelphia has approved the purchase of the Church of Christ property on Main Street, just west of the post office and will start making plans for a new modern building for the bank, including drive in windows on the west side.
Mrs. Harriett DeWeese and Mrs. Boots Howell were shown with a piece of the stained glass windows they and Mr. Howell constructed for the new St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church being completed this week.

Returning letter players in Neshoba Central track are Kim Reese, Kathleen Davis, Linda Diana Lyons, Nora Slayton, Charles Carter, Raymond Scott, Billy Ray Parker, Herman Clark, Cleotha Cole and Tony Sharp. Returning lettermen in baseball are Jackie Morrow, Steve Cheatham, Bruce banning, David Clay, Steve DeWeese, Miller Dunn, Carl Ellis, Larry Gage and Herman Kelly.
A bill that would help finance construction of a new Neshoba County Library has been passed by the Mississippi legislature and sent to the governor.
March 21, 1984
A majority of Neshoba Countians at Saturday morning's precinct caucuses favored sending uncommitted delegates to the Democratic national convention from Mississippi. Of those expressing a presidential preference, Walter Mondale supporters led.
Philadelphia Mayor Charles McClain received keys to the city's new garbage truck from Jean Giffis, owner of Griffis Ford-Mercury, where the truck chassis was purchased for $22,684.54.

An unidentified newborn baby was turned over to Neshoba County authorities after being found by a man in his home, Deputy Donnie Adkins said Tuesday.
Recent favorable weather has made it possible to accomplish a lot of work on construction of the Silver Star Resort and Casino on the Choctaw Indian Reservation.

Beacon Street was closed to traffic for about 30 minutes early Thursday morning after a bomb threat was called in to the Huddle House. Someone called the restaurant at 7:55 a.m., and said that a bomb would go off in 15 minutes.
