Deputies arrest pair of women in U-Haul on meth charges
Two women in a U-Haul truck were arrested on meth charges last week at an abandoned house off Highway 19 South.
One of the women, Chaney Manning, 30, 10250 Road 1136, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, hindering prosecution, and possession of paraphernalia.
Manning’s bond has been set at $11,600.
The other woman, Bridgett Jade Crapps, 35, 11551 Road 418, Union, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, and two counts of disorderly conduct.
Crapps bond has been denied.
Neshoba County Sheriff’s deputies first encountered Manning at about 8 p.m. on May 22 in front of an abandoned house off Highway 19 South, where the roadway transitions between four-lane and two-lane near the city limits.
Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said he was on his way home from church with his family when he reported a U-Haul truck parked in front of a house he knew to be abandoned and asked that deputies stop by and make a welfare check.
When deputies arrived, Clark said Manning approached them before they could exit their patrol car from the passenger side of the truck.
Manning reportedly told deputies that they had run out of gas and were waiting for someone to bring them more.
Deputies looked inside the truck and said the driver’s seat was empty. A deputy heard some noise in the woods and asked Manning if someone was in the woods.
“The answer was written all over her face,” Clark said.
In the woods, deputies found Crapps, who was served an indictment on May 2 for a September 2022 charge of possession of methamphetamine.
A search of the vehicle found a white bag containing what deputies believe to be crystal methamphetamine and a glass pipe.
Clark said Manning also repeatedly gave deputies false information.
