Area basketball teams pick up momentum on season

Basketball was in full swing last week as area teams continued to dominate on the court and push toward the postseason.

The Neshoba Central Rockets went 1-1 last week in three district games to move to 12-9 on the season and 1-3 in district play. 

The Rockets began the week with a close 67-64 loss to Vicksburg before rallying on Saturday to defeat Callaway 81-76. 

The Rockets were scheduled to play Columbus on Tuesday. 

The Choctaw Central Lady Warriors moved to 16-3 on the season and remain undefeated in district play after defeating West Lauderdale 80-15 on Saturday. 

They were scheduled to play Leake Central on Tuesday. 

The Warriors followed suit, defeating West Lauderdale 67-55 to improve to 16-5-1 on the season. They are also undefeated in district play with a 3-0 record. 

The Philadelphia High School Lady Tornadoes picked up two much-needed wins last week, the first being 52-48 against Sebastopol. On Friday, the Lady Tornadoes defeated Eupora 50-41. 

The Lady Tornadoes are currently sitting at 4-7 overall and 2-1 in district play. 

They are scheduled to play Union High School on Friday. 

The Tornadoes, also 4-7 overall, are currently sitting at 3-0 in district play after defeating Sebastopol last Tuesday 59-52. 

They were scheduled to play Choctaw County on Tuesday.
