$2M bid accepted for nursing home renovation

A $2.9 million Neshoba General Nursing Home renovation project has been awarded to Philadelphia’s Perry Construction Co.

This action was taken Monday during the a regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors. 

The county received two bids for the project. Perry Construction’s base bid was $2,174,200 with six alternate bids.

The hospital board had recommended accepting Perry’s bid.

Philadelphia’s McLain Plumbing was the other company making a bid. Its base bid was $2,548,600. 

McLain also bid on five alternatives totaling $666,500, making the total bid $3.215,100.    

This project has been on the drawing board for several years. It was bid out once but the bids were considered too high and were not accepted,

Neshoba General CEO Lee McCall hs said the focus is on 74 of the nursing home’s 160 resident rooms.

“Basically, it is an HVAC and room renovation project,” McCall said. “We are going to renovate Nursing Station No. 1. It’s one of the older systems in the nursing home that needs replacing.

“Once we do that, we are going to replace all of the HVAC units in the affected rooms, renovate the rooms, put in new flooring. We will paint and freshen the rooms up.”

In other actions, supervisors:

• Accepted the daily meal log from the jail for the month of March. Supervisors also approved the hiring of a part-time jailer.

• Accepted of the proceeds from the sale of accumulator weapons from the Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Eric Clark said the sale brought in $11,140.

• Accepted the resignation of District 3 Election Commissioner Harold Richardson, effective March 30. 

Dwayne Sharp was appoint interim election commissioner until a special election can be held.
