A Union man was airlifted to a Jackson hospital after he was involved in a single-vehicle wreck late Thursday afternoon on Highway 19 South near the Bethsaida Community.

The driver of a Pontiac Solstice, John Gunner, 61, of Union, was traveling southbound on Highway 19 when he ran off the road and collided with a tree, MHP Trooper Jameka Moore said.

Sheriff Eric Clark said the call reporitng the wreck came in around 3:30 p.m. just south of where Highway 19 intersects with County Road 282. He said he had a deputy on the scene for almost an hour and fifteen minutes.

He noted that the wreck took “a considerable amount of time” to clear and noted traffic was never completely shut down in the area.

Clark said Gunner was transported to Neshoba General Hospital by ambulance where a helicopter was waiting.
