Despite a 15-strikeout effort by pitcher Alanlee Wheeler, Union dropped its playoff opener to Jefferson Davis County.

But the Lady Yellowjackets responded with a pair of nine-run wins, beating the Lady Jaguars 11-2 on Saturday and 10-1 on Monday.

Union improves to 15-8  and advances to the second round of the 3A playoffs. 

Union 10, 

Jefferson Davis County 1

After long the first game of the series, the Lady Yellowjackets allowed just two hits and took advantage of 10 errors to take a nine-run win over the Lady Jaguars on Monday.

Union scored two in the first and third and led 4-0. After Jefferson Davis scored one in the fourth, Union finished with six runs in the sixth to take the win.

Union had eight hits in the contest, led by Lauryn Roebuck who was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Abigail Cleveland was 2-for=3 with a double while Tiara Campbell  homered and drove in two runs. 

Alanlee Wheeler pitched all seven innings and gave up one run on two hits and one walk while striking out eight.

Union 11, 

Jefferson Davis County 2

The Lady Yellowjackets used a pair of big innings to take a nine-run win over the Lady Jaguars on Saturday. 

After three scoreless innings, Union scored six in the fourth. Union added one in the fifth and four in the seventh.

Union had just seven hits but committed six errors. Cary Wilkerson was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored while Landry Hanna had a solo home run. Lauryn Roebuck doubled and scored while Tiara Campbell and Abigail Cleveland each singled and scored two runs. 

Alanlee Wheeler pitched all seven innings and gave up two unearned runs on two hits and one walk while striking out four.

Jefferson Davis 5, 

Union 2

The Lady Jaguars scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take a win over the Yellowjackets in the first game of the season on Thursday.

Jefferson Davis scored one in the third and fourth while Union answered with two in the fifth. Jefferson Davis then scored three in the sixth inning to take the win.

Union had just two hits in the contest as Destiney Moulds tripled and scored while Elle Killen singled and scored. 

Alanlee Wheeler pitched all seven innings for Union and gave up five runs on five hits while striking out 15.
