Two local men were arrested on unrelated felony drug charges during a special detail Thursday evening, Sheriff Eric Clark said.

On Thursday, December 14, 2023, Neshoba County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted the MS Office of the Attorney General with a Fentanyl Strike Force Saturation Detail in Neshoba and Leake Counties.

“Multiple agencies participated within their own jurisdiction, in an effort to conduct proactive narcotics investigations in the area,” Clark said.

Jamie Anderson, 45, of 10800 Highway 16 East, was one of two men arrested and charged on felony drug charges during this detail. He was charged with two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance and one warrant for the sale of a controlled substance.

Anderson was served the warrant issued through Neshoba County Justice Court at his home on Highway 16 at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, according to Clark. At the time Anderson was arrested he possessed felony amounts of morphine and oxycodone, Clark said.

The other felony arrest was Jay E. Byars. Byars, 58, of 11100 Road 802, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance. Byars was also cited for no insurance, a seatbelt violation and a license tag switched.

Byars was stopped on County Road 602 for a seatbelt violation, which led to the discovery of a switched tag and no proof of liability insurance, Clark said. Officers discovered a felony amount of methamphetamine on his person during the traffic stop.

In addition to those two arrests, Clark said deputies issued nine traffic citations, one DUI-first offense, and served two contempt of court warrants on this detail.
