Tax rolls now open for the public to view

Tax Assessor/Collector Mike Lewis told the Board of Supervisors on Monday that the 2024 land roll is now open for public inspection through Aug. 2.

The period is an important time for property owners to review their valuations and ensure that all buildings being taxed are accurately listed.

“Once the land roll is accepted and closed, we can only make changes under certain conditions,” Lewis said.

The reappraisal process has been completed, and the updated appraisal manual from the state Department of Revenue is now being implemented, which may lead to an increase in property values that could result in higher taxes, he said.

Officials said property owners should review their assessments during this period, as adjustments and changes are limited once the land roll is accepted and closed.

After the roll is finalized and tax bills are issued, the ability to make changes is restricted by statute. For more information, contact the Tax Assessor/Collector’s office at (601) 656-4541.
