Supervisors approve $27K solid waste grant from state

A Solid Waste Assistance Grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality was accepted by the Board of Supervisors for the county Road Department last week.

The $27,671 grant will allow the county to clean up illegal dump sites and get reimbursed for the equipment and manpower used, officials said.

“As these are cleaned up, we will also be working to identify the persons responsible and hold them accountable through Justice Court,” said County Administrator Jeff Mayo. 

In other action during their regular meeting on Sept. 18, supervisors voted to:

• Accept a return of seized funds in the amount of $6,500 to Michael Anthony Lee from the Sheriff’s Department;

• Approve an Alcohol and Drug Impaired Driving Grant Application for $40,807 to the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety;

• Approve reimbursement of a DUI grant for June in the amount of $4,033 and July for $4,348 to the Sheriff’s Department;

• Accept insurance proceeds for $4,713 and repair of 2021 Dodge Durango in the amount of $5,339 to Elite Collison;

• Approve July prisoner feeding bill of $49,260 from Neshoba General; 

• Approve the resignation of mechanic Brian Hardy from the Road Department.
