Supervisor Cumberland recovering at UAB

Moments after escorting his daughter Anna as Neshoba Central’s Homecoming Queen Thursday night, District 2 Supervisor Kevin Cumberland collapsed at dinner with an emergency  room physician and nurse present at the table and an automated external defibrillator nearby, his wife said.

“What an awesome God we serve,” his wife Shebia wrote in a Facebook post. “As most of you have heard Kevin went into V-Tach arrest. After CPR and being shocked numerous times at the restaurant, he then had a heart cath at Anderson Hospital where we found out he did not have a heart attack.”

Cumberland has been transported to UAB in Birmingham from Anderson Hospital in Meridian. He is expected to have a defibrillator placed at UAB today (Wednesday).

According to his wife, Cumberland went into ventricular tachycardia arrest at a local restaurant. Cumberland had just attended the Neshoba Central football game. He had escorted his daughter, Anna, who had been crowned Homecoming Queen.

In Meridian, he spent two nights in the ICU before being moved to a room.

Fortunately, on Thursday evening Cumberland was sharing dinner with a emergency room physician and nurse who revived him with CPR and an AED that was at the restaurant. His wife specifically thanked Dr. Kevin Beason, Mecie Beason and EMS responders.

Mrs. Cumberland said Kevin seems to be feeling better. “He is doing good just sore but we praise God that he is still with us,” she said. ”So many miracles happened during all of this. God moved a ballgame from Friday night to Thursday, it started raining so we left the game early, we went to a restaurant that had an AED and we had a doctor and nurse at the supper table with us.

“We give God all the praise and glory that he is alive today but we can’t thank Dr. Kevin Beason, Mecie Beason, and EMS enough for helping save his life.

“Thank you so much for the prayers, calls, text, and love that has been shown to us by our wonderful friends and family. Please continue to pray for all of us. God has truly blessed our family!!”
