Storm damages The Citizens Bank roof

No one was injured after the roof the The Citizens Bank on east Main Street collapsed after hours during a heavy rain storm last month, officials said.

The roof of the branch at 599 East Main Street collapsed on March 30 just before 10 p.m, said Shon Kirkland, facilities manager for the bank. The branch remains closed until repairs can be made.

Kirkland said that nobody was injured at the time of the collapse and that all bank employees have been dispersed to other locations.

“We encourage our customers to visit our other locations in Philadelphia,” Kirkland said. “We hope that will not be a big inconvenience and are working to get their lives back to normal as soon as possible.”

He said that bank officials are not certain of the specific cause for the collapse but the damage did appear to be due to an accumulation of rainwater on the roof during that evening’s passing storms.

Bank officials are working with their insurance adjuster and a local contractor to get the building repaired and back in operating order. Kirkland said they are still working on a timeline as of Monday morning.

“We are working to get this resolved and back in operation as quickly as possible,” Kirkland said.

Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons said officers responded to the scene around 10 p.m. that evening and said no one was reported in the building a the time of the incident.
