The Neshoba Central Rockets defeated Northeast Lauderdale 17-4 on Saturday, thanks to a big 5th inning.  

The Rockets got on the board first in the 3rd inning with two runs, then added a huge 10 runs in the 5th and five in the 6th two close out the scoring. 

Sanders Griffis started on the mound for the Rockets, sitting down the first nine batters. The Trojans came back with two runs in the 4th and two in the 5th to close out their scoring. Griffis allowed four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. J.P. Hancock came on in relief in the 6th to close out the game. 

The Trojan pitchers allowed 17 runs on 13 hits, four walks and seven strikeouts. Big hits for the Rockets came from Espn Jackson with three, Griffis with two, R.B, Hardin with two, and Will Williams with two.

District play began on Tuesday at Warren Central, followed by a rematch at home on Friday. Southeast Lauderdale comes to town on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game. JV begins at 11 a.m.

The Rockets, 8-3 on the season, lost a close one to Newton County 2-1 on March 16. 

It was a pitchers’ duel from the start to the finish. Sam Killens took the mound for the Rockets, giving up two walks and a double scoring their only two runs.

Taking the loss, Killens held the Cougars in check for four innings giving up the two runs on three hits and one strikeout. 

The loss came after a 6-2 loss to the West Lauderdale Knights on March 15. 

The Rockets got on board in the 2nd inning with one run, but the Knights came right back with a homerun in the 3rd to tie the game. The Knights took the lead in the 5th with a man on base and a homerun to go up 3-1.

The Rockets came back with a single run it the 6th.

Ryder White took the loss for the Rockets, going six innings while surrendering three runs on five hits, two walks, striking out four. J.P. Hancock came on in relief in the 7th inning, surrendering three runs on three hits with two errors in the field. Sanders Griffis took the mound with one out to finish the game with a ground out and one strike out.
