Rebels lose 2 on diamond
The Leake Academy Rebels stumbled in district play last week, losing two out of three to Park Place Academy.
Leake is now 18-7 on the season and 8-4 in district play, sitting alone in se and place as the last week of the regular season nears. The Rebels will finish the regular season as they host East Rankin on Tuesday and then play the Patriots at Pelahatchie on Thursday. The Rebels will have senior night on Friday, April 21 as they host the Patriots to finish out the regular season.
Park Place 5, Leake 0
The Rebels struggled at the plate and were shut out by the Crusaders on Monday in game 1 of the series.
Leake had six hits in the contest. Bishop Hardin was 3-for-4 with a double while Riley Myers doubled. Rhett Atkinson and Matthan Weaver also singled.
Myers started on the mound and pitched six innings, giving up three unearned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out 10. Rhett Stovall pitched one inning and gave up two unearned runs on one hit while striking three.
Leake 15, Park Place 0
The Rebels rebounded on Tuesday and run-ruled the Crusaders in five innings.
Leake had 15 hits in the contest with five hitters with multiple hits and seven extra base hits. Whitt Welch was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs while Riley Myers was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Bishop Hardin was 2-for-2 with a double, triple and three runs scored. Matthan Weaver was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Charlie Brantley was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Rhett Atkinson tripled and drove in two runs while Brewer McClain doubled and drove in two runs. Jarod Sims also doubled for the Rebels.
Hardin started on the mound and pitched all five innings, scattering two hits and three walks.
Park Place 13, Leake 8
The Crusaders took advantage of six errors and took a five-run win to take the series from the Rebels on Thursday.
Leake had 13 hits in the contest, led by Rhett Atkinson who was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Matthan Weaver was 3-for-4 with a double while Riley Myers was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.
Bryce Watkins started on the mound and pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs on 10 hits while striking out three.
