Rebelettes basektball win streak comes to end

The Leake Academy girls saw a second double-digit winning streak come to an end this season.

After hammering Winston 60-21 on Tuesday, the Leake girls had a 10-game winning streak come to an end as they fell 56-51 to homesteading Simpson County Academy on Friday. The Rebelettes then bounced back and beat Ingomar 61-58 in overtime on Saturday at the Mid-Mississippi Classic in Ackerman.

The Rebels split a pair of district games this week, beating Winston 55-22 and falling 59-24 to Simpson. 

Leake will return to play this week with a pair of district games as they travel to Park Place on Tuesday and host Lamar School on Friday. 

The Leake girls move to 24-2 on the season while the Rebels are now 13-9 on th3e season.

Leake girls 60, 

Winston 21

The Rebelettes had little trouble as they took a 39-point win over the Lady Patriots on Tuesday in district play.

Leake outscored Winston in every period as they led 15-3 in the first period and 11-3 in the second to lead 26-6 at the half. Leake then outscored Winston 34-15 in the se and half to cruise to the win.

Leake was 21-of-33 from the field to shot 63 percent from the game. Morgan Freeny led Leake with 14 points while Grace Maxey and Emeri Warren each had 11 points apiece. Katye Jones had six points and six rebounds while Elizabeth Smith had six points as well. 

Leake boys 55, 

Winston 22

The Rebels started fast and cruised to a 33-point win over the Patriots on Tuesday.

Leake jumped out to a 22-2 lead in the first period and then outscored the Patriots 18-12 in the second period to lead 40-14 at the half. Leake took the third period 12-5 in the third and each team scored three points in the fourth.

Samuel Prince led Leake with 17 points while Whitt Welch had seven points. Benjamin Jackson and Sam Evans each had six points apiece while Trey Clark chipped in five points. 

Simpson girls 56, 

Leake 51

The Lady Cougars used a big fourth period and forced 22 turnovers to take a five-point win over the Rebelettes on Friday in a district contest.

Simpson led 14-10 at the end of the first before Leake outscored the Lady Cougars 17-9 in the second and led 27-23 at the half. Leake took the third period 11-10 and led 38-34 and even extended the lead to 10 points at one point before Simpson outscored the Rebelettes 23-13 in the fourth to take the win.

Emeri Warren led Leake with 21 points and four rebounds while Morgan Freeny had 13 points and three steals. Marleigh Myers had seven points and four rebounds while Grace Maxey had five points, five rebounds and four assists. Allen Kaye Wilcox had four points and pulled down 14 rebounds. 

Simpson boys 59, 

Leake 24

The Cougars outscored the Rebels in every period and took a 35-point win on Friday.

Simpson led 11-4 at the end of the first outscored Leake 12-5 in the second to lead 23-9 at the half. Simpson continued to extend its lead and outscored Leake 20-7 in the third and 16-8 in the fourth. 

Jack Harkins had five points and two assists while Samuel Prince also had five points. 

Leake 61, Ingomar 58

The Rebelettes overcame a halftime deficit to take a three-point win over the Lady Falcons on Saturday at the Mid-Mississippi Classic in Ackerman.

Leake jumped out to a 20-14 lead in the first period but Ingomar outscored the Rebelettes 20-9 in the second and led 34-29 at the half. Leake then outscored Ingomar 10-8 in the third and 17-14 in the fourth to force overtime. Leake then outscored Ingomar 5-2 in the overtime period to take the win.

Emeri Warren led Leake with 22 points and 12 rebounds while Grace Maxey had 19 points and eight rebounds. Morgan Freeny had eight points while Allen Kaye Wilcos had five points and Katye Jones had four points and four rebounds.
