Philadelphia man arrested in Vicksburg for alleged stabbing

A Philadelphia man has been arrested in connection with a Friday stabbing at a Vicksburg motel.

Vicksburg Police officers arrested Marshall Wesley Simmons, 42, of Philadelphia, on Saturday, Oct. 28, and charged him with aggravated assault in an incident at the Days Inn, The Vicksburg Post reported on Monday.

Just before 8 p.m. Friday, Vicksburg Police officers responded to the Days Inn, 90 Warrenton Road, for a reported assault, according to The Post. 

The victim, a 33-year-old man, had reportedly been slashed in the face with a sharp object. He was transported by a Vicksburg Fire Department ambulance to Merit Health River Region for treatment, according to reports.

The following day, Vicksburg Police received information that the suspect was at the WaterView Casino, The Post reported. 

Simmons was taken without incident.

The Post said Simmons appeared before Judge Angela Carpenter in Vicksburg Municipal Court on Monday and was charged with aggravated assault and bond set at $70,000.
