Philadelphia High School’s 2021 Athletic Banquet was held on May 11 at the Neshoba County Coliseum.

Barry Richardson, athletic director at Philadelphia High School, said the banquet was about showcasing Philadelphia High School’s young athletes and what they have accomplished during the past school year.

“We had around 200 guests at the banquet, which was made up of coaches, athletes, parents and anyone else who wanted to attend that purchased a ticket,” Richardson said.

Richardson said during the banquet, each coach went up one at a time to present the awards and talk about the year, their successes, and how challenging it was to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic while being competitive in high school athletics.

“A lot of work goes into each individual sport and it gave the coaches a chance to recognize each student individually,” he said.

Richardson said challenges the past year induded meeting guidelines and keeping things as safe as possible during the pandemic, and that safety is always the priority.

“I am very proud of all these young athletes that got awards, especially since this was an exceptionally challenging time,” Richardson said.
