Only 14 new cases of COVID reported in past week

COVID-19 cases have risen slightly in Neshoba County over the past week, with 14 new cases reported, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health. 

Neshoba County’s total COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began is now 4,051, which is 14 more than last week’s 4,037. The death toll remains at 178, 114 of those from the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, according to the MSDH. 

Meanwhile, 19% of Neshoba County’s population is fully vaccinated as of Monday, according to MSDH and 21% of the county’s population has received one of the 11,463 total doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered in the county.

Vaccinations are being administered Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Neshoba County Coliseum, 12000 Highway 15 North, and are available to all Mississippians 16 and older. Go to https://msdh.ms.gov/msdhsite/_static/14,0,420,976.html to make an appointment.

Neshoba County Schools reported between one and five cases among students at Neshoba Central Elementary School as of May 21. No staff members or students have been quarantined. 

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians had reported no new positive cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths as of May 31, with the total number of positive cases for the Tribe remaining at 1,838 with 114 deaths. No new hospitalizations have been reported.

Statewide, since the pandemic began in March 2020, 194,502 confirmed COVID-19 cases have been recorded by the MSDH along with 123,253 probable cases, totaling 317,755 cases. There have been 5,047 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, along with 2,271 probable COVID-19 deaths, totaling 7,318 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
