Neshoba’s unemployment rate increases during November

The November unemployment rate in Neshoba County increased five-tenths of a percentage point when compared to the previous month, according to figures from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

When compared to November 2021, that’s an increase of .4 of a percentage point.

This continues to follow the trend in East Mississippi. The unemployment rate represents the number of unemployed people as a percentage of the civilian labor force for the county.

The Neshoba County labor force was 9,670 people in November, a decline of 60 when compared to last month. There were 410 unemployed people in November.

           Mississippi’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November 2022 was 3.7 percent, increasing three-tenths of a percentage point from the previous moate of 3.4 percent. When compared to the November 2021 rate of 3.6 percent, the rate increased one-tenth of a percentage point.

 The Nation’s unemployment rate for November 2022 at 3.4 percent was unchanged over the month and was five-tenths of a percentage point lower than the year ago rate of 3.9 percent.

Mississippi’s non-farm employment increased 4,300 over the month and 1,200 from one year ago.

 The industry sectors registering the largest monthly employment gains were Trade, Transportation & Utilities; and Professional & Business Services.

 For the month of November 2022, 31 counties in Mississippi posted unemployment rates less than or equal to the state’s rate of 3.7 percent. Lafayette County posted the lowest unemployment rate for the month of November at 2.6 percent followed by Lamar, Rankin and Union Counties at 2.7 percent. Jefferson County had the highest unemployment rate for November at 11.4 percent followed by Humphreys County at 7.6 percent.
